This project provides a two-mile arterial roadway which serve as a second major access to the Jacksonville International Airport by connecting Airport Road to the I-295 beltway. Our work included the evaluation of four alternative corridors for the connector road and design options to accommodate expansion of the airport and surrounding industrial and tradeport activities. The major socioeconomic obstacle was the provision of access to adjacent developing properties and existing rental car facilities located along Airport Road. Minor environmental issues included impacts to sensitive wetland systems and a stream crossing. The community process included involvement included community, agency, public and property owner meetings, as well as a public hearing. This project is a Type 2CE and received Location and Design Concept Acceptance from the Federal Highway Administration Involvement. The project was constructed and is open to traffic.
