The Prosser Hallock Tekie Foundation

About the Foundation

Azeb Tekie The impetus for the formation of The Prosser Hallock Tekie Foundation was the sudden, unexpected demise of Azeb Tekie, a beloved and respected transportation engineer at the firm of Prosser Hallock, Inc. for eleven years. The Foundation was established in remembrance of Azeb’s extraordinary life and is a celebration of her accomplishments. Following her immigration from Ethiopia, Azeb not only provided a secure home but ensured her own education and that of her brothers and sisters. Her life reflected the ideals of duty to family, responsibility, good citizenship and unfailing friendship.

“Azeb believed strongly in higher education, put herself and two siblings through college and took interest in the educational achievement for all her co-workers. She touched all of our lives and nurtured us all for many years,” said corporate chairman Richard C. Prosser

University of North Florida Student Awarded Annual Tekie Foundation Scholarship

The 2007 Prosser Hallock Tekie Foundation Scholarship recipient is Cherry Adibe. Cherry was selected as this year’s scholarship recipient because of her ambition to continue her education in order to help others who have specialized needs. Cherry lost her father at a very young age and has been able to use the hope and strength that such a life changing event requires to bring about a positive change in her life. She wants to be a physical therapist because it gives her an opportunity to work with people that are handicapped and to help them realize that their handicap is a barrier that they can overcome.

Cherry has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida and is currently working towards a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida. Cherry is the first graduate student to receive the Tekie Foundation Scholarship.
